Best-of-three for the Stanley Cup, and Carolina has home ice. The Final is tied 2-2 after the Hurricanes’ 5-3 Game 4 win in Vegas, and Game 5 is tonight (Thursday June 11, 8:10 PM ET, ABC) at Lenovo Center in Raleigh. The winner moves one victory from the Cup; the loser faces elimination Sunday in Vegas. Carolina is a -154 home favorite, and after four straight overs the books have finally lifted the total to 6.5.

The Bussi Question
Rod Brind’Amour’s Game 4 gamble, benching Frederik Andersen for Brandon Bussi, won Carolina the game and changed the series. Now comes the harder call: does the rookie keep the net for the biggest home game in Raleigh since 2006? Everything points to yes. Bussi was composed (18 saves, the first goalie since 1961 to win his playoff debut in the Cup Final), and Andersen’s series numbers had cratered. But a Cup Final Game 5 in a building expecting a coronation is a different kind of pressure than playing with house money on the road.
The prop angle: Vegas managed just 21 shots on Bussi in Game 4. At home, with last change, Carolina should control territory again. Bussi Under 25.5 saves is the quiet lean if Carolina dictates play; the over on Vegas team total (3.5) is the contrarian play if you think the rookie wobbles.
Three Keys for Carolina
-
Start like the home team. Carolina has trailed early in three of four games. Lenovo Center will be deafening; converting that energy into a first-period lead, instead of another chase, flips the script that cost them Games 1 and 3.
-
Depth scoring keeps rolling. Staal (2), Blake, Stankoven, and Ehlers (3 points) carried Game 4 while Aho was quiet. Vegas has no answer for Carolina’s third line right now; keep feeding the matchup.
-
Stay out of the box late. Vegas’ power play is the one phase that has consistently hurt Carolina. In a one-goal third period, a single undisciplined stick penalty can decide the Cup Final’s pivot game.
What Vegas Needs
The Knights have scored three or fewer in both losses, and their stars went quiet in Game 4 (Eichel and Marner combined for zero goals). Pavel Dorofeyev has been their most dangerous shooter at even strength and is a popular anytime-goal play tonight. If Vegas survives the first ten minutes and gets this to the third period tied, their late-game execution (two OT-era wins this series) is the equalizer.
Cup Futures and Conn Smythe Going Into Game 5
| Market | Post-G3 | Post-G4 (today) |
|---|---|---|
| Carolina to win Cup | +160 | -125 |
| Vegas to win Cup | -190 | +105 |
| Marner Conn Smythe | +300 | +300 |
| Staal Conn Smythe | +2000 | +600 |
| Aho Conn Smythe | +600 | +450 |
| Ehlers Conn Smythe | +2500 | +650 |
The Game 5 winner has won the Cup in roughly three of every four 2-2 Finals. Tonight is, in practical terms, the championship pivot.
Best Bets for NC Bettors
- Carolina ML -154. The price is fair, not generous, but the spot is right: home ice, the better 5-on-5 team, a goaltending decision that just paid off, and a Vegas team whose stars went quiet.
- Under 6.5 (-135). Contrarian after four overs, but the number finally moved off 5.5, and close-out-adjacent games tighten up. Take the inflated total back under.
- Staal anytime goal (+250). The captain has three goals in two games and Vegas has no physical answer for his line.
- Dorofeyev anytime goal (+200) as the Vegas-side hedge; he leads the Knights in even-strength shooting danger.
